Wild Horses
Every morning as I cross the Deschutes River I watch for a herd of about twelve wild horses that live on the Warm Springs Reservation side of the river.
Quite often I'm rewarded with a view of them grazing along the river, or better yet, grazing up on the canyon wall as if they were mountain goats stacked impossibly one above the other. They are very, very wary animals. One time I managed to get my car safely parked hoping to get a very nice photo of four of them drinking from the river. I was across a major highway and across a large river from them. As soon as I brought the camera up three of them spooked and the forth took one more swallow then followed the others up back up the side of the canyon.
This morning I stopped once again when I noticed five of them ambling along the narrow road on the far side of the river. I stayed in the car hoping they might come down to the river for water.
They didn't.
No worry, I think this photo will work just fine to help me remember that these beautiful wild critters were once a part of my morning routine.
