The Autocat of the Breakfast Table
The tabby kitten has established herself as a member of the family since her arrival a month ago. No longer a lost babe-in-the-woods, Nest is now a confident lap(top) cat who, replete with her own breakfast (a Whiskas steamed fish pouch with warm milk) can contemplate the human feeding frenzy (sausage, bacon, black pudding, scrambled egg, bubble&squeak) with equanimity.
Nest is a Welsh name that references the kittens' chance discovery in a bed of leaves. The 12th century Princess Nest was known as 'the Helen of Wales'.
The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table (1858) is a collection of essays by Oliver Wendell Holmes based around the residents of a New England boarding house.
