Beam me up leechy

This is the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, where we went on a morning walk, wearing fetching canvas leech socks because the forest floor was crawling in them.

It was a nice place but we didn't see anything amazing. The shafts of light poking through the canopy were about as exciting as it got.

In the nearby village of Kumily, where we were staying, there was a lockdown in the evening because people from the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu came into Kerala to protest about a dam issue that will affect water flow across the border. Protestors were running all over town banging on the gates of our hostel and smashing up shops. I will confess to being a little bit concerned.
