Finials

Until today, I didn't know that the knobs on the top of poles, curtain rods and rugby posts are called "finials". I'm delighted to learn a new word, especially as finials are quite rare in the rugby world these days.

Here, you can see the ball passing neatly through the middle of the posts, during Bedford versus Llanelli at Goldington Road, Bedford. The finials are dark/light blue.

It was an enthralling match but it was bitterly cold. The score was 25-25, Bedford drawing level with the last kick of the game.
