Souvenir of another time
Discovered this when doing a bit of sorting out in my room. It is an educational pack dating back to the Apollo moon landings, with facsimiles of various documents related to the first moon landing mission - Apollo 11. The long map shows the planned route 'there and back again' and there are cardboard representations of the main parts of the spacecraft with which to 'work through' the docking procedures during the space flight. All very simple, compared to the sorts of computer simulations you can no doubt find these days. I'm pretty sure I must have got this pack on a visit to Edinburgh to see the moon rocks in the Chambers Street museum, most likely for my birthday in September 1970 (given that the moon landing was in July 1969, so probably not enough time for stuff to be on display in Edinburgh only two months later). Of course there's people out there who don't even believe the moon landings happened, or even better people who think the hoax idea is a conspiracy to distract everyone from what the astronauts really saw when they were up there!
