Blue tit
There was a lot of action around the feeders this morning. I've noticed how domineering the green finches are. They flap around and bully whatever other bird is at the feeder. But not straight away. They what a while, perched either in a nearby tree or on the support. When they've decided the occupant of the perch has had enough, they go in for a bit of aggressive chirping, clearly saying "Go on! You've had your share! There's others here, you know!" If this approach fails (it is sometimes quite successful) they fly towards the perch and, mid-air, flap around, trying to see the other bird off. If it's a smaller bird, it tends to win the perch very easily but if it's another green finch then they start pecking at each other. If it's a sparrow, the green finch is simply ignored.
In this photo, the blue tit has been 'persuaded' to leave by the green finch.
This new obsession is teaching me a lot about bird behaviour!
