Took a day off work today and had a long drive out to Todmorden Market. Not been before and it's just a small place with some really unusual shops and some very friendly people.
It was chucking it down and very cold so after having a rapid walk round the outside market we sought out the warmth of the inside one. I needed to buy something as the loos were 20p (can't believe they charge!) so we needed change. Got some yummy cheeses and olives then came across this lovely display. 'A Partridge in a Pear Tree'. It wasn't a pear tree (apparently!) but Ash. But there was definitely a Partridge in it - albeit a cut out one. Then kids could write their Christmas wishes on a paper pear and hang them on the tree.
I was expecting the usual excessive requests in this materialistic world - but it was so heart warming to read the messages here.
'I wish me and my brother get a laptop to share'.
'I wish I was popular' (Awww. :-()
'I wish the poor children to get presents. Love Morgan. '
'Please can I have a hamster for Christmas? Love Emily '
'I want a Happy Christmas'. (Yes - me too)
So nice to know that there are still children who know there is so much more to Christmas than what is piled under the tree :-)
