Trompe l'oeil
I had a bit of a double-take when I came past here last Friday en route for a "Freaky Friday" blip. This is the entrance to Inverness's Victorian Market - a really nice indoor area with many small shops including a real butcher and a real fishmonger. Used to be a good old-style tobacconist but I'm not sure whether that's still there. The frontage is covered with scaffolding and there is sheeting across the front. But instead of using plain sheeting they've got a picture of what's underneath. Looks very cleverly done. I had to look twice at areas like the top left to convince myself I wasn't looking through to the actual building. Once the brain has latched on it's not the same. In the picture it looks a bit like people are walking in front but in real life there's no room between sheet and road barriers so the people are just painted on. I took a shot last week for Flickr as my blip spot was already settled so today I made a point of checking the same people are still there. Possibly it's been done to mollify the shop-holders as I think some were worried that the works would lose them trade at a busy time for retail businesses.
