cherish what remains

I've spent much of the afternoon looking at the velvety color mezzotints of Joop Vegter. I own two, one of which was ruined in a flood caused by a water main break. The appraiser for the city of Kansas City has put them, along with some posters and personal artwork, in the category Misc : $50.00 and I beg to differ. Seems I have to prove otherwise. So I turned to the interwebs.

I learned a few unsettling things. First, Mr. Vegter died in 2003. Second the gallery in New Orleans that specialized in etching, lithography and wood engraving where I purchased my print collection is out of business. Third, the unsigned David Lance Goines poster is worth as much as the mezzotint.

I think I will challenge myself to try a series of still life photos in honor of Joop.
