What is the definition of a weed?

I like the concept that a weed is a plant growing where you do not want it.

This little chap crops up in all sorts of places in what passes for a garden here. If he appears in the middle of my alpine beds I weed him out. There are other places where he adds colour and interest to dull, untidy corners and here, growing through a Daphne I am enjoying the little sugar candy flowers as Christmas approaches :-)
