Sgwarnog: In the Field

First Ice

We woke to a light dusting of snow on the moor, a deep frost, and the first proper ice of the winter.

The moor track that lies next to our house acts as a stream for most of the winter months, being the quickest way of draining water from the higher moor. When it freezes, some running water is often left flowing beneath the ice, and I think that's what creates these patterns. You can see the ice in context here.

Although there were bright spells during the day, sadly the clouds had arrived by the time of the moon rise, and the brief window in which we might have been able to view the eclipse. Of all the people I follow on blipfoto, @JohnEdward seemed to have the best view. I'll just have to wait for next time.
