Manual of Photography

I picked up this book for £2 a couple of weeks ago called - Ilford Manual of Photography published by Ilford Limited. Apparently this version of the manual was published around 1922 making it nearly 90 years old, and has a cloth cover. It has been used but looked after.

After Hollowspy's rant blip on 'manuals', I've dedicated this blip to him.

The Publishers Note, reads -

'The years have passed since this text-book was written by Nr. C.H. Bothamley, F.I.C., and published in 1890 by Ilford Limited, have witnessed extraordinary developments in every branch of photography. As successive advances have been made, and new processes have come into use, the MANUAL has been continuously revised and enlarged, and thus, for more than forty years, has provided reliable instruction in the process of photography in general use.'

I wonder what they would have made of photography today and blipfoto? I constantly find it amazing, the advances in technology. I'm lucky to live near the National Media Museum that shows the changes to photography and cinematography over the years which is very impressive.

I had a little plastic wind-on camera as a child (the one with the long role of film that went from one side to the other as you took the pictures, that I loved but was always frustrated with the photos it took, even at that age, I wanted the pictures to be better! I was waiting for digital even back then.

Anyway, just thought I would share this with you.
