Loch an Eilein

I took a detour off the A9 on my way back from Inverness. I wanted to see what Loch an Eilein looked like in late afternoon winter light. It's a beautiful, magical place. If I'd had the time (and the daylight), I'd have taken the path that goes above the Rothiemurchus woodland and gives you gorgeous views of Braeriach. But it was getting dark. And I had to get back to Edinburgh to let Cat go on her Work Christmas Night Out.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
