Smokey and the Bandits

Finally got around to smoking the Cuban cigars I bought in Vinales with friends tonight.
We headed to a 'western' bar in what eventually turned into a very messy evening that carried us all the way through to a 5am finish.

So called western bars in Korea are similarly-decorated places that sell a large and massively overpriced selection of bottled beers from around the world, as well as whisky by the bottle - usually spectacularly overpriced scotch.
The bars interiors tend to be wood, indeed the wooden tables and chairs are inexplicably identical in every bar you visit.
Popular chains in Gwangju incude Miller Time, Wa Bar and Wow & Joy.

The one above is Wa Bar - in my opinion it has the best interior but the worst beer (we tend to drink the local Korean stuff they sell as it's much cheaper).
Every Wa Bar has it's beer selection lit up colourfully behind the bar or along a wall, and English drinkers may be amused to spot various flavours of Hooch a pretty revolting flavoured alcohol drink that helped define my teenage drinking years. To give you an idea of the ridiculous prices, a hooch-like drink in a bar in The UK comes in at around £2.50, over here the bottle is smaller and the price is £4.50. This is a good example of how, amazingly, Koreans pay more on average for branded goods than anywhere else in the world.
