Concrete Hippo

Living near Walsall as I do, it was only a matter of time until this curiosity popped up on here. Anyone from Walsall and the surrounding area knows immediately what and where you are talking about when the concrete hippo is mentioned, but if you venture out a little further then all you will get is bemused faces. This thing is about as close Walsall gets to a landmark, a fact highlighted by a radio series I remember from a couple of years ago by Mark Steel. He visited Walsall on his travels and even saw fit to mention the hippo in this article promoting his programme.
