Puddle Life

A mini puddle in a joint between two stones of a wall.

Lichens are amazing things. Maybe not the cuddliest things, but they are incredible in their own way. They are a symbiotic relationship between fungus and algae. The algae photosynthesises, the fungus provides water, and nutrients are swapped between the two. They don't need roots and can set up home on bare rock, tree bark and some survive in the harshest ecosystems on our little planet, where people wouldn't last a day.

Wouldn't it be nice if slightly more advanced organisms could get along so well?

There is even a British Lichen Society, which is nice. - I bet they have some interesting parties.
