MACRO - keyhole view

This is one of the brass door fixtures in our house.
When we first moved in, I used to polish the metal.
Too much effort for nothing!
Now they are dull.
Some have a patina.

I wonder if looking through a keyhole helped inspire Lewis Carroll for some of the door story lines in "Alice in Wonderland"?
