Made in Scotland: from girders

You can't have missed all the coverage of the storm we have been and still are experiencing across Scotland's Central Belt today. There have been amazing blips as well as video footage on TV. It has been quite something and further north I believe there is worse to come.

We have gazed fascinated and in awe as all hell has been let loose outside our patio windows ; it's hard to believe that no tree has succumbed, as yet, as their tops wave frantically through wide wind-driven arcs.

And yet .... and yet .... the nest built by the despised (by me) magpie family sits firm and determined at the top of the naked beech . All day I've peeked out to check.. At 16.00 it's still there! I am consumed with admiration; this construction was built to last.
