Today is the complete antithesis of this musical expression.
It indicates the player should play very, very, very quietly (the last 'p' means 'quiet', each 'p' before mean 'very'), with a mute and flutter the tongue (as if you were rolling your r's).
I've been walking the dog, and we nearly got blown over twice (quite exciting), very wet (quite annoying), and now we just have to hope the house stays up, the roof stays on and Mary gets back from Aberdeen tonight...
