Just a Book
But what a book!
I've been reading books by scientists on the subject of Consciousness for some time now. In the last 20 years it has become an accepted area of study after nearly 100 years of neglect (since William James shone his light on it).
It was in the domain of the philosophers for a long time but don't expect me to talk about that! Philosophy let me down, you see.
The popular writers on the subject have been mainly of the neuroscientific persuasion and I salute them for their synthesis of research and for their clarity of expression.
This writer, Nicholas Humphrey, is a Professor of Psychology. In "Soul Dust" he has written about consciousness in a way that is relevant to us all. He has bridged the gap at last between the academics and everyone else. As well as being of popular interest it is possible that this book may change the way you see things!
He is the first scientific writer who has acknowledged the relevance of the views and experimentation of monks and mystics in such a study.
If you are interested in what the significance of being conscious is to you and how it affects the way you see things then read this book!
