wait...

...for me

as he hurried to catch up... passing directly overhead

i'd heard them before actually seeing them... as is always the case with geese - the loud honking they do announcing their arrival... and sending out the message to each other - i think - as to which way they're going... directions, per se... so they all remain in formation. well, for the most part...

as i heard them in the house - i grabbed my camera thinking this would be an ideal blip for the day if they'd really be going right over... tripped as i rushed to throw on my coat since it's freezing cold outside and ran down the steps into a snowy yard - looking up into a sun filled sky... hearing them in the distance, i waited - then saw them in single file first heading in the wrong direction. and then they swooped towards me... my heart leapt as i found myself talking to them even though they couldn't hear me.

they came very quickly through the sky - determined in their course - focused on a destination... i managed to get off only a few shots and then heard another lone honking. just behind... was this little guy bringing up the rear with a flurry of wings flapping. i wondered if he'd been poking along - admiring something - now trying to catch up with his buddies as they were a ways ahead of him... that would be me - lagging behind, i thought - smelling the roses... taking my time - not understanding the big rush when the sun is out and the sky is blue. i felt like telling him that he had the right idea - lollygagging is not always so bad - it's okay to enjoy a relaxed pace - it can make for...

a

happy day.....
