The Old Blacksmith's
I can't quite imagine how this little building on Blacksmith's Bank (obviously named so because of it) would have been when it was a thriving, successful business. It's part of a very different world to the one that we know in this country now.
It's not the best advert for the Strong Building Co. Ltd. is it? Or maybe it is, it might be derelict but this old building has been there forever! You can't quite make it out from the photo, but underneath that corrugated roof the old thatch can still be seen poking out (above the door on the right).
It makes me so sad, it's just been left to rot unwanted in a quiet corner behind some ugly, new (a relative term) flats and shop fronts. It might be a humble blacksmith's shop, but to me that's real history, the stuff about the everyday people, who led such different lives to the people who live in the village today.
I bet the majority of people don't even know it's there, and if they did would they care? I certainly won't be forgetting it.
(Nice name suggestions for our shire horse from yesterday by the way guys, thanks :D)
