Gnat's Knacker

Down by the pond again today. I was trying to get an in-flight shot of one of these blighters but they are too damn skittish. What are the chances anyway when you are coping with a depth of field smaller than a gnat's knacker? (that's an old traditional toolmaker's unit of measurement BTW).
