Maori Pou (poe) Carving
This is a traditional carving which is an important part of Maori culture. I believe it was used in place of writing as a means of passing down history and culture through the generations. It is about 3 metres high with several carvings, one on top of the other.
The carving stands in the "New Zealand Garden" surrounded by many native plants of New Zealand gifted to Harrogate Council by the City of Wellington. The carving was given by local Wellington Maori iwi (many tribes)
The shot was taken this morning when the carving was catching the sunlight.
