....snow is falling.......

For Lady LaLa.................. secret Shakin' Stevens fan

Woke up at 3.30 this morning...the world was white...and this was the scene that greeted me when I got up at 6.45 to go to work.

To be fair it isn't snow...it's hailstones and the roads and pavements were all clear...........but we've had fierce hail showers all day long.

I think it may have kindled my Christmas Spirit.

Quiz league tonight...away game......deadly rivals...the Cricket Club....we're having a really iffy season...they haven't lost a match..although their last two games have been draws.

Phil dropped himself and made me captain. The CC tried their usual unsettling tricks....putting us onto a little table wedged into a corner...having a big table for themselves....keeping the TV turned on above our heads for the football...but my pep talk to Bob, Lee and Terry was along the lines of "F*ck 'em the smarmy gits, just concentrate on the questions, I'll take all the difficult decisions, lets just win".

We chose to go first.

First round , we won 4-8, thanks to a knowledge of Russian dogs, Motor racing and war time radio.

Round 2 Individual questions..... Terry (US Tv series), Lee ( Religious movements) and I (Misquotes) all scored but Bob (Capital cities ) dropped his question for a bonus and a round score of 9-6.
Total 13-14....our lead cut to one point.

Round 3 A disaster...we got the rough end of the questions...again.....and lost 10-4.
Total 23-18....our lead was gone!...and we were now 5 behind!

Round 4 the eight point round/stick or twist...theme On the side of the Angels. We score the full 8 points thanks to Terry's knowledge of Thomas Aquinas and my knowledge of cult TV...the CC were forced to stick on 2 points!!!!!!! Round score 2-8

Half time score 25-26....back to a one point lead. Second half we were going second

Round 5 Another rough question on winds for us, but we held on for 6-6.
Total score 31-32

Round 6 Two part questions. 4 points for a right answer on the first clue, 2 points for needing the second clue. They got their first one wrong and three 2 pointers right....we got a bonus 1 for their first one, four for our first one, 2 for our second, 4 for our third and 2 for our fourth to win the round 6-13.
Total score 37-45.

Round 7 individuals.....again Lee, Terry and I picked up 2 points each and Bob dropped points so we lost the round 9-6.
Total 51-46

Last round...all we had to do was hold our nerve...........and we did ......matching them question for question to share the round 8-8.

Over all score 54-59. We won!!!!!!!

Never seen such bad losers....sickly smiles, complained about some of the questions ( but in reality we had the only two iffy questions tonight), left in a huff.

Do I care...... not a jot....we won, we won!

They'll probably still win the league, but we might make runners up...but at least they can't go through the season undefeated.
