Life is like a river

The beating heart

Another sculpture today :o)
This one is called Fiskermonument or "The little fisherman" by a Norwegian artist named Knut Skinnarland.

On the mountainside across the fjord you can see "The beating heart" of Akureyri. It's the size of a football field (soccer pitch) and it "beats" all day during the Christmas season (a few weeks before Christmas and through the beginning of January).

The heart is also accentuated in many other places here in town, like the traffic lights, stickers in windows and other things. It all started in 2008 when a few people (designers, printers and project managers) got this great idea to make a symbol for positive thinking and happiness - Smile with your heart! Brostu með hjartanu!

Something good to fend off the negative feelings everyone was experiencing after the financial crisis started in October 2008.

It's still very cold, -15°C tonight. You can see the arctic steam fog rising in the lower right hand corner of the photo. Brrrrrrr.... I might be freezing my **** off here up north!
