Auld Reekie

Another enforced day of leave found me lunching at the Modern Art Gallery then a wee wander around the newly refurbished Portrait Gallery with the purple-rinse-brigade, (they get everywhere you know).

After my brief visit, I felt they'd wasted the space on the ground floor, it wasn't used very effectively. But the galleries on the 1st and 2nd floors were excellent. I was particularly intrigued by the phrenological specimens in the atmospheric library. You could tell which masks had been made in life and those in death.

It was also interesting to see Alfred Buckham's Aerial View of Edinburgh even if it did use a bit of trickery.
