A slice of Lesley's life

By Lesley

Picture perfect morning

After falling into bed exhausted very early last night, I awoke bright and breezy this morning feeling a lot less burdened than for the last few weeks. Outside was bright too so J and I headed off for a cycle to Chiswick House. We haven't made it out on the bikes for ages and it felt really good. And it was so quiet that J was able to get back some of the confidence he has lost through lack of practice recently.

Home for a hearty breakfast before taking A for her first ballet exam. Home again for a hearty lunch before a family outing to the hairdressers where the afternoon took a turn for the worse. I should probably gloss over the next couple of hours that were so dark I took refuge in the kitchen doing all the comfort cooking I could think of. And it seems to have worked. The mere smell of roast ham and mashed potatoes, followed by chocolate chip bars* turned the children back into recognisable human beings. Quite simply J stopped crying at everything and A stopped making up weird attention seeking stuff. I know the perils of potential future associations with comfort eating and I may have taken a short term approach but for the sake of all our sanities it was worth it.

I'm hopeful of a calm evening and if it doesn't materialise at least I have chocolate chip bars.
