Patchy cloud

Patchy's an odd word. The more you write it the weirder it looks.

Still, patches of sunshine make for a bonnie day.

There is a spot on the Orkney Mainland where you get a great view of our patch of an island. In this past blip year I must have stopped there a couple of dozen times and tried to capture it for you. But I never manage to do it justice. The light is either to bright or too dark, the island tends to end up as a thins strip between the sky and the sea.

Tried again today and all the pics were rubbish. Instead you get the view to the West, the parish of Holm (pronounced Ham) and the hills of Hoy in the background.

If you look carefully (with a magnifying glass!) you may be able to make out some WW2 gun emplacements (bottom rightish) and the first of the Churchill Barriers, the thin grey ribbon to the left of the pic.
