Cape Pembroke, The Far East (of the Falklands)

A beautiful summer day in Stanley, near cloudless blue skies and almost no wind. I walked east from Stanley out to the eastern most tip of the Falkland Islands. The Cape Pembroke Lighthouse was sent out from London as a kit (you can still the part numbers on the various components) and assembled in 1855. It was lit using rape seed oil, and later sea lion oil, before being converted to paraffin.

In 1982 (after the war) it was superseded by a little automatic light, which isn't nearly as photogenic.
