Bagged - the three at Glenshee

After a very very wild night with flooding in many parts Southern Scotland Donald and I decided to head up to Glenshee to bag the munros of The Cairnwell, Carn a' Gheoidh and Carn Aosda.

As we drove into Glenshee the weather looked not great and less great as we reached the ski centre car park. We decided to head on as we were quite well prepared and the worst of the weather had passed. Carn Aosda went quite quickly with quite a few hare seen on the way up. Next we headed back down and off to Carn a' Gheoidh and the weather began to close in. It cleared for this photo in some very intense winds which were hard to stand in. Low cloud then descended and it became impossible to see more than 20 feet in front and the wind was not helping when looking at the map. Eventually we saw two distant figures heading down and tracked across and found the well worn path to which we were parallel with. We launched ourselves up the last steeper slopes of the hill and reached the summit. Thankfully a small shelter had been built neat the cairn and we were able to eat a sandwich and a mars bar before heading back. After tracking back to the start we started on The Cairnwell - the biggest of three but with a well worn route to the phone mast and ski slopes. The wind was wild as we reached the top and the summit was disappointing with a disarray of old huts and windswept telephone masts. The walk down was quick, and after a cuppa and carrot cake in the ski centre cafe we headed back down the road tired and satisfied.
