Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Autumn Leaves

When I arrived home this afternoon, the autumn leaves clumped together in the corner of the steps that lead to the front doors caught my attention. If I could just get the camera inside of my eyeball then I could show you what I was really seeing. This doesn't quite capture what I saw.

The winds have been horrific here today. The newscasters referred to them as the "Santa Ana" winds, which reminds me of my Grammie Teele telling me when I was little that the winds are not the "Santa Ana" winds, but rather the "Santana" winds. I need to so some research on this. It is not only windy here, it is cold.

My Thursday students wrote their last in-class essay today; well some of them did. I emailed them yesterday to ask who was really ready and honestly who wasn't. Half the class responded that they were not ready. So I gave them the option to come write the essay with my Tuesday students this coming week. I was a little discouraged by their lack of preparation. I don't think my students realize that they are on the threshold of an employment world that is going to expect them to produce and if they are not ready, they won't have a job for long. So my allowing them the extra time was certainly not the best option for them. It was selfish of me -- I did it because I don't want to read lousy essays. Hopefully this coming Tuesday they will compose essays worth reading. Twelve days until this semester concludes for my classes.

Good night from Southern California.
