Modest Hero

Today RAF Son in Law 2 ( by age of course) received a commendation from his Air Commodore for involvement in the rescue of a climber during a training exercise in Spanish mountains earlier this year. The climber had been hit by falling rocks and had fallen part way down a mountain and suffered considerable injuries. Son in law and colleagues climbed up to the climber to secure him and made him as comfortable as possible until he could be airlifted to hospital some 3 hours later . Sadly the climber died 3 days later. We didn't hear the detail of this rescue until today when his Commanding officer described the situation which made us appreciate how training kicks in in these situations when help is extended to people unknown.
