Reclaiming our Land

Rene and Marciana, key players in the Club Ecologico, sweat and grunt to remove a cement stake from the mangroves.

Last week a private landowner cut a wide path directly through the stand of mangroves in order to have beach access. The community government of Las Tunas has filed against the destruction of this fragile habitat for blue crabs (and other wildlife).

In a show of solidarity we marched out this morning to take the stakes down, stuff the gaping hole with the vegetation that had been cut, and put up signs to prohibit further foot traffic.
