WHEN God made--

When God had made the Earth and sky, The flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals And all the birds and bees.
And when his work was finished, Not one was quite the same.
He said, 'I'll walk this earth of mine, And give each one a name,'
And so he travelled land and sea, And everywhere he went,
A little creature followed Him Until his strength was spent.
And when all were named upon the Earth, And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said,'Dear Lord, There's not one left for me!'
The Father smiled and softly said: ' I've left you till the end.
I've turned my own name back to front, And called you DOG, my friend.

Hubby and I were invited to a friends house today for afternoon tea and boy does she know how to lay on a wonderful spread!We had cheese and fennel scones, with brie wedges and garnished with pickled red onions,home made Ardennes pate spread somewhat sumptuously on rye biscuits and topped with mini salads, and home made blinis with fresh salmon and herbs, followed by the lightest, airiest black treacle teacake I have ever tasted(not that I have tasted it very often) and luscious double chocolate cake with fresh raspberries and cream.Honestly, it was to die for.My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
She had gone to so much effort - The table in front of the warming fire was spread with a hand sewn Xmas tablecover, which in turn was graced with Xmas napkins,silverware, even a china teaservice adorneded with hand painted thistles for her Scottish guests!Thankyou so much Evelyn for your hospitlity.You went to so much effort.Simply amazing, considering you are well into your seventies, live alone and are just recovering from a major opertaion.You put me to shame.However, we hope to reciprocate at some point over the Festive season when the children are home.You are truly inspirational!
