A walk in the park

Avenham Park is one of the public parks which are a proud tradition of Preston (Moor Park to the north is claimed to be the first municipal park in Britain). Today it was the starting point for a march and rally as part of the national day of action in defence of public sector pensions, part of a wider struggle against the trashing of the commons and for greater social and economic justice, which appears to be gathering momentum. There was a good turnout and some excellent speeches and songs.

Tory politicians and sections of the media try to set public and private sector workers against each other - but how many of the latter rely on their partners employed in the public sector to provide for a decent retirement? Most ordinary families include public sector workers, and will suffer if this theft of the future is allowed to happen.
