Gladstone

Light and Dark. Ying and Yang.

It's sometimes the things you don't see on a daily basis that surprise me. I have passed these two tiled arches many times and only today did I notice a small plaque up on the tenement wall. It seems Sir John Gladstone was born here. A Leither it turns out who went on to father William Gladstone who went on to become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom four times in a political career than spanned over 60 years.

Okay, he wasn't actually born in this tenement as it was built (in 1905) almost 100 years after William Gladstone was born (1809).

But there was still a little bit of contact with history.

And these oddly hypnotic tiles of course.
