Hell hath no fury like a woman...

...who's winter jackets have been eaten by moths!

Yesterday evening I decided to start tackling the clothes that I had put aside whilst I was losing weight. It was great, favourite items from years ago fitted me again, I was happy, I was feeling good.

Then I got out the bag of winter coats.

I'd put away several winter coats including a beautiful full length, double breasted, black wool coat and a knee length wool coat. On lifting them out I noticed a bit of white fluff. Picking it off, I was surprised to find it black inside. Odd, I thought and carried on unfolding them. Soon the true meaning of the white fluff was revealed, the jackets had many areas similar to that in the photo above.

Tineola bisselliella - the common clothes moth! For anyone not familiar with these pests, the caterpillars feed on natural fibres, in particular... wool!

As I have nothing left to lose, I've put them in the washing machine (yes, they're dry clean only). I'm hoping that if they still fit after washing, the thickness of the wool and the black lining fabric behind it might hide the holes that have been made in the fabric.
