Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Watching the Sky

All life here today happened under the sky's gray flannel blanket. As I left the house headed to work, I thought I'd made a mistake by not bringing my jacket. By middle day the gray blanket had lifted just high enough that we could see for miles and the temperature had climbed into the 80s. Then at 4:45 the two of us were making our exit from an important meeting in an office in the center of Norco and realized the gray was going to light up, so we headed for "Beacon Hill," which is a landmark in Norco.

There above the community we looked over the old Norcoian Club, the Naval Weapons Center, and the California Rehabilitation Facility (which is an oxymoron for prison and if the truth is known, few people are rehabilitated there).

We moved several times to get a better look, but just couldn't capture the enormity of what we were seeing. We learned a long time ago that if we don't pause to take in a scene like this, it won't pause either; then it's gone forever.

We would have missed all of this if we had let our stomachs vote. Mr. Fun was ready as we left our meeting to head across the street to an Italian Restaurant that we've just learned about. I asked if we could go look at the sky -- a different kind of nourishment. He voted with me to go to see and then when all the color had disappeared and the flannel was darkening into night, we drove back to the restaurant and there had a lovely experience eating in a place we'd never been to before but certainly plan to go to again.

Good night from Southern California.
