Golden-ringed Dragonfly

Today was day two of the field trip to the Peak District.

This is a Golden-ringed Dragonfly! One of the students found him this morning at Longshaw Estate in Derbyshire. I tried not to disturb him too much to take this photo as I wanted the rest of the students to see! He looked a bit grumpy, I feel his pain, the weather is a bit cool and cloudy but grass is going crazy with pollen. My hayfever is making me so sleepy and irritable.

The students seem to be perking up a bit though. It's fun to poke around the undergrowth, ponds and grasses looking for unusual invertebrates.
