Forgotten?
I take the road less traveled. Always.
I love to explore new places and see new things...I rarely refer to a map, unless time is crushing in on me, forcing me to "find my way".
Here in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, there are many, many dirt roads that look quite....well, less traveled! Today, after dropping Daughter at her boyfriend's house, I decided to head east on some pretty unused roads.
I passed by endless farms....I had no idea there were so many huge farms nearby. What a wonderful time I was having, listening to the radio and just driving along.
I came upon a somewhat rare find...there, along a small road, was a cemetery that looked like it had some very old graves. Not missing such an opportunity, I parked the car along the road and hopped out.
Now, let me tell you....although it was midday, it was drizzly and quite miserable. Across the road from the cemetery is a mobile home that looks quite abandoned. Something about the whole "setting" of this experience gave me the willies!
I understand that European readers would not find graves from the early 1800's very "ancient" , but the Untied States is a young country. One of the graves was dated 1815.
The headstones were in pretty rough shape and some were not legible at all. Quite an interesting find, this was!
