Thistle Down

A Rug

I braided on a rug,
With colors bright.
Around and around they went,
With strands both dark and light.

Shades just like the rainbow,
Showed with every hue.
Magenta-red and crimson,
Were filled in by the blue.

Light-gold, brown and yellow,
Around the edge...did go.
It took ahold of purple,
And put on such a show.

It got to be a beauty,
So long...it was in size.
To see the colors mixing,
Held awe within my eyes.

I likened it to every life,
With such a gorgeous blend.
The braid began with birth at first,
And went on till the end.

The rug in front of the sink was, indeed, braided by Ethel Pickett. It now adorns the kitchen of her great grand-daughter. Ethel used a five strand braid.
