3 hours of trailing stars and planes

Better large

Is everybody getting fed up with me posting these star trail shots yet? Its a bit of phase I am going through at the moment. When the weathers right I often give it another go. :-)

I set the tripod up tonight and set the timer going. This is a combination of 366 exposures each 30 seconds long all stacked up using photoshop (which takes quite some time for the computer to think about!)

FOr those who havent seen this kind of shot before. The circles of light are caused by the movement of the star while taking the images. Stars in the sky all appear to rotate around the north star, this isnt really the case, its actually caused the rotation of the earth and not the stars. The earth rotates around its north/south axis so stars in the north appear roughly stationary and the further a star is in the sky from north or south the more they appear to rotate from our perspective.

The straight lines are rather more human in origin... they are planes flying into and out of Newark airport which is off to the east.

The light in the bathroom came on in 2 separate images of the 366. I thought about removing it but then I started to think it actually adds to the final image, so I left it in.

Ive just finished doing a whole loada backblips for our recent vacation... check them out if you like...
