Growing old disgracefully

By GOD

EARLY BIRTHDAY GIFT

My amazing neice Fiona got snowed in last year with 60 tartan cup cakes she'd made for my birthday ceilidh. This year she made it through the gales to an early birthday party, bringing 61 cupcakes and this book. As she pointed out, I am not really her godmother, but she thinks the close relationship portrayed in this book encapsulates how she feels about me. I am touched, honoured and doubtful of her discernment!

'She was like a parcel that plopped through the post on a rainy day when I didn't know what to do. She unwrapped herself and there was a surprise to very layer. She knew how to make the grass whistle, She could make a hat out of a shopping list. In her pocket I once found a baby hamster.'

I only wish I was so interesting!

If you haven't yet read The Godmother by S.R Harris, get hold of it and give yourself a real treat. The illustrations by Helen van Vliet are so warm and tender.
