Rest?

It's the St Nicholas Fair in York this weekend and the city was heaving today. Really. We're talking shoulder to shoulder, pushing, shoving and general crowdedness. There wasn't a lot of comfort and - in the conversations I overheard - not a huge amount of joy going on as people bustled and hustled through the teeming streets.

Except in St Michael's, where we served tea, coffee and cake to 2400 people and gave them an opportunity to have a seat for a bit. And there was live music, too, a couple of singers and the fab gospel choir who sang - amongst other things - "God rest you, merry gentlemen; let nothing you dismay."

Seemed rather apt.
