Happy Thanksgiving!
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
We had a leisurely start to the day, then late morning went to the movie theater to see Hugo in 3-D. Roger had read a great review on it earlier in the week, and then, quite independently, Jason had mentioned the movie yesterday, and said it was supposed to be really good. We all totally agreed with the reviews - it was a brilliant, and most enjoyable movie - I thoroughly recommend it. It left us with just enough time to have a quick meal of yesterday's early Thanksgiving dinner left-overs, before taking Jen and Jason back to the airport for their return to Houston. A short, but sweet visit! Roger and I then went for a brisk walk at Rowe Woods for some exercise. It had been another grey day, but as we were driving down to the airport, there were one or two breaks in the cloud, which developed over the next couple of hours into a beautiful sunset. This evening has been a leisurely evening at home.
Some more Thanksgiving thoughts:
The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. ~H.U. Westermayer
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds. ~Theodore Roosevelt
A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues. ~Cicero
