Sucks!
Is there a worse bar for keeping their beer than the Caley Sample Room? I don't ask this question entirely rhetorically, you would understand. We had to call for lagers. Barely drinkable. If it wasn't for the excellent music, we'd be off.
But to last night! Off to the Cameo after work to see Wuthering Heights. I liked Andrea Arnold's previous films, Red Road and Fish Tank a great deal so I was quite optimistic that this bleak and brutal version would be pretty compelling. I felt it didn't really work; once you strip out all human emotion apart from brutality, and render all communication monosyllabic, then you're going to struggle to drive a story along the same route as the original. Perhaps she should just have written something new. The motive forces just aren't there, so the latter part of the film is utterly disjointed from anything which has gone before. The drawn out ending becomes unbelievable, tedious and baffling. On the plus side, the cinematography was pretty good and if you like animal cruelty you're in for a treat!
