Spot the sundial
I seem to be inadvertently collecting photos of Catalan sundials. I actually liked the contrast in the light that accentuated the shape of the spire but then noticed the sundial on the wall. Villefranche is normally packed with tourists, especially now it has gained World Heritage Site status. It is an impressive fortification built after the Treaty of the Pyrenees to safeguard the valley and surrounding area but never put to the test. In winter the narrow, empty streets and the shuttered buildings emanate an air of calm somnolence. The inscription on the sundial seemed very apt when I translated it:
'Com mes sol fa mes be escric'
'When the sun shines I write better'
