Birthday Celebration's Conclusion
Birthday cake for one! We left the house late this afternoon to do a little shopping -- actually a little "lookey lou-ing" and that was when I had planned to get the birthday cake blip, but before getting to the grocery store, we decided to stop for dinner.
When the waitress explained that my dinner included a "muffin," I told Mr. Fun that I thought the birthday cake was going to be a birthday "muffin." When the waitress brought the muffin to our table, I asked if she had a birthday cake candle. "Sure do," was her response.
So the birthday celebration comes to an end this evening, but that's okay because tomorrow brings the national celebration of Thanksgiving. It's a 4-day weekend that used to be about being thankful, but currently it seems that the holiday has transformed into a long weekend of eating and shopping and football games. No matter what the focus, it is a celebration.
It is apropos that the "birthday" cake happened today because this is Mr. Fun's brother, David's, birthday. This is the second birthday since his death, but we still celebrate his life and enjoy the memories of him.
The evening news reported that 42.5 million Americans are traveling to a holiday destination. So here's the first thing that I'm thankful for -- that I'm not traveling this weekend. We're home enjoying the warmth of the fireplace, just relaxing and comfy.
If you are in America, Happy Thanksgiving. If you are not, I hope you celebrate right where you are.
Good night on the eve of a holiday from Southern California.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
