Compositition N0 508- Anatomy (Scotland) Act 1832
Up until 1832 few burial grounds in Scotland escaped the ravaging hands of resurrection men or grave robbers. The residents of Udny Green, Aberdeenshire found an ingenious solution to the problem of grave robbing by building a Mort House within which the bodies of the deceased were kept for up to 3 months before burial thus ensuring that the corpses were beyond any use to the grave robbers who sold them on for dissection.
